About Me
Hi, I'm U Lam Lou 勞于藍,
a UX researcher and designer who turns what I observe into inspiration. People can interact with and respond to the same thing differently. That’s why I often look closely at their interactions, figure out where friction happens, and notice what might be overlooked. I turn what I discover into ideas and experiences that feel less frustrating and more intuitive.

I earned my B.S. in Cognitive Science with a specialization in Design & Interaction and my M.S. in Computer Science at UC San Diego. It all started with a Design of Everyday Things course. I realized how much I enjoyed researching the little pain points people experience and designing solutions to address them. I found it especially fulfilling to see users appreciate how their insights turned into design decisions that delighted them. This led me to further pursue this path.
I currently work as a Research Assistant under Dr. Laurel Riek and Sandhya Jayaraman on human-robot interaction at the Healthcare Robotics Lab. I also work as a UX Designer at the Data-Driven Learning Lab, where I designed the end-to-end interface for the mobile app WillowMind.

Music • Anime • Food • Travel • Museum • Baseball
Music has been part of my life for years. I sing and play violin and piano. Being on stage also taught me to stay calm under pressure and keep going even when things didn’t go as planned. When I came to the U.S. to study, I really missed that musical side of my life. So, I joined the Chamber Orchestra and co-founded Comfort Tone, an a cappella group that started with just 4 people and somehow became a family of 30+. (Check out the a cappella piece I arranged ;))
I also served as the International Representative for the Thurgood Marshall College Student Council (yes, UC San Diego has 8 colleges!). I organized quarterly events for international students to bond and brought their concerns to the council.
Traveling is one of my favorite ways to relieve stress. Every time I’m somewhere new, museums and food are always on my to-do list. I especially love seeing how different places present their art and culture. And of course, I always have room for more good food.
I’m a huge anime fan. I love everything from the stories and underlying ideas to the colors and music. Anime has definitely influenced both my designs and the way I think, and somehow it even got me into baseball (shout-out to Daiya no Ace lol!). I’ve been going to games over the past year after learning most of the rules through anime.
